Lab 1- Surface Area and Cell Size: Introduction Background Information- Iodine is an indicator for starch. When iodine is merged with starch, it turns a dark purple/black color. Cells require nutrients in order to survive. Cells must eliminate waste in order to survive. Description of the Experiment- This experiment was done to provide evidence for why cells are so small. Basically, we pretended that each potato cube used was a single cell and the iodine is the nutrients (food) for the cell. Expectations/Hypothesis of the Experimental Outcome- I think that the smallest potato cube will have the nutrients (iodine) diffuse the farthest.
